What'cha Think?

So here it is, the shed in the backyard of the cottage. Jam packed with a lifetime of...stuff. Not all of it is junk though. About half of it consists of things to do with gardening. Things that I have to keep. And if you think it's full now you should have seen it before the big "clean out" this past spring. This shed and the one behind it were wall to wall full. I haven't missed a thing that went to Hospice. Nothing.
But on to the reason for these pics...this is where I would like to start my little herb store, kitchen soft goods, etc. shop. I'm thinking that after I empty the shed, a good bit of paint will be in order. Then some rearranging of shelves and of course tons of cleaning. It will still be rustic, but clean and painted. So now I'm asking you for your opinions...is it feasible? What'cha think?

Busy Days Ahead...

Is that a look of complete adoration you see on Georgianna's face? Or is it one of "Hey, dangling earring is mine if you don't hurry up and move."  More than likely it's the latter...
I have a busy week ahead of me. Today and tomorrow I'll be cooking and prepping for our ladies meeting at church tomorrow night. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it. I have my menu figured out and my devotional ready. Wednesday I'll be taking my mother to have some minor surgery on her eyes. I'm happy to still have her with me and looking forward to that as well as a chance for us to have a little time to ourselves. I'm also praying that her vision will be much better than it is now once her eyes have healed.
From Thursday on to the rest of the week, if the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise, I'm hoping to start cleaning up the shed out back in order to start my business of herbs and kitchen related items. I have a pretty good collection of herbs in my private garden and have planted dozens of perennial herb seeds in starter trays.
I still haven't taken the before pics of the shed but hope to get that accomplished on Thursday. I'm looking forward to hearing your comments on whether or not you think this business venture is
"doable".  Until then hope you all have a great week filled with blessings!

Egg On My Face...

Sorry 'bout the title, I couldn't resist! Besides, I really did have egg on my face. And hands. And probably on my shirt. I'm a messy eater. These are the eggs from my little bantam hen.

This is a five inch skillet, just to show you how tiny these eggs are.

Just look at the color of those yolks!

Bantam eggs are easier to flip. Just sayin'.

The slice of cheese covers the two eggs.

A tiny tomato from my garden to go with the tiny eggs.

Oh. My. Goodness.

Yes, it was absolutely delicious! Wanna know what I'm going to make next? Of course you do! Tiny, bite sized deviled eggs! Can't wait to see how cute they'll be.
I promise not to say tiny again in this post.
Now on to the plans for today:

I'm going to start digging the herb bed out by the coop. I was lucky enough to catch these herbs on sale yesterday at Motlow Creek Gardens. Fifty percent off! Lavender, basil, lemon thyme and English thyme. I've also planted some seeds for other herbs and hopefully I can transplant them when it cools off somewhat. I've always had better luck planting herbs in the fall than in spring here in South Carolina. They over winter well and come to life the following spring. If I plant them in the spring they start out okay but don't seem to take the heat of summer well that first year. Again, this is just what works for me. I also never use any fertilizer on herbs except my own compost. Commercial fertilizer takes away their flavor. This is what Martha Stewart says and I don't argue with Martha. Ever.
Most everything I've learned in life worth knowing came from Martha Stewart. Gardening, home keeping, some cooking, home decorating, surviving divorce and being single in my fifties... (It's all turned out just fine)
Now on to the new herb bed. I've decided to try my very best to open a small herb farm and kitchen type gift store in the shed out behind the cottage. All prayers said on behalf of this are much needed and appreciated :)
I have a lot of work to do on the shed before I can even apply for a business license. A LOT of work. I'll take before, during and after photos. It's going to be tough, but if I don't do it now and give it a try I'll never know. One thing in my favor is the location of the cottage. It's right on a busy highway, so I'm hoping that will help. This has been a dream of mine for a very long time and I plan on giving it my best shot to make it come true. I also learned this from Martha. She'll be so proud when I'm a successful business woman!
Wonder if I'll get my own tv show? And magazine? And books published?
It's okay, I'm back to reality now.
Going out to dig...

Perfect Peach Cobbler, Finally!

I mentioned making a peach cobbler last week and finally I have done just that. If you're interested in the video with the recipe and instructions, just click here. It's made from "scratch" but it's easy and delicious! Let me know what you think!

Eggs Anyone?

Yesiree, we have us some "aigs", now granted they're small ones but they're still eggs. See how tiny they are? The larger egg is only a small one, so that kind of let's you know just how petite the bantam eggs are. Flossie has consistently laid one per day since she started last week and she's still one very proud little girl. I just wish she would clue her sisters in on how it's done, so that they would start laying :) Maybe soon!
Now, what will I make with her eggs? I keep thinking of doing something really special with them but honestly all I really want is an egg sandwich with cheese, Duke's mayonnaise and freshly sliced tomato. With hash browns on the side, cooked with onions. Might as well put some cheese on those too. 'Scuse me, I have a date with a certain cast iron skillet...

A Day Of Firsts...

Yesterday was a day of firsts indeed. I picked my first tomato of the season. They were planted rather late, around the end of May so I really hadn't expected them to start coming in before now. And even though it was a tiny thing the taste was absolutely out of this world! That did surprise me a bit, because they don't receive much sun where they're planted. I only had two that were ready and to be honest, I didn't see many blooms coming on. Maybe a dose from the compost pile is in order...

Yesterday was also the day for the first egg from the hens. I can't begin to explain how much joy this brought me. My little Flossie wins the prize for being the first. I'm so proud of her and she seemed purdy darn proud herself. She's a sweet girl, she runs up to me and even lays down at my feet, waiting for me to stroke her back. Love me some Flossie, and the rest of them too! I haven't cooked the egg yet because Flossie is a bantam (very small) her eggs are small too, it's going to take a few to make it worth the effort, but well worth the wait, I'm sure.

Hopefully this weekend I'll be getting some cabbage, collard, spinach and lettuce seeds planted, and before too long I'll have another day of firsts...
